Hessei Cotoneaster
Hessei Cotoneaster is a highly ornamental plant that can tolerate neglect and poor soil. This deciduous shrub is just starting its fall color with maroon to purple foliage. When the leaves drop the architectural stems will hold their red berries in winter. In late spring the plant is covered with small pink flowers, and the following red berries form a nice contrast to the shiny green foliage.

Hessei Cotoneaster can grow in part shade to full sun. It also tolerates poor soil, is unaffected by salts, and drought tolerant once established. The branches reach out gracefully, and look better when left unpruned, especially on top of a low wall or in a rock garden. Hessei Cotoneaster is great for stopping erosion of a hillside, and it is very striking planted en masse. This low growing shrub is 2 high and will grow to 4 wide.
