Sango Kaku Japanese Maple is best known for its bright red stems, and its small size.
The Sango Kaku Maple is an absolute showpiece in a small, partly shaded yard.
The small leaves emerge pinkish yellow in the spring, mature to a lime green,
then produce yellow orange fall color.

All winter red bark makes a strong statement in the garden and is a nice contrast to the leaves year-round.
Sango Kaku is slow growing, and tops out around 20 high, and 15-20 wide, but smaller when kept in a pot.
Like all Japanese Maples it prefers shade in the hot afternoon sun.
Japanese maples like our cool, wet mild climate.

Sango Kaku look fantastic with a low growing grass or ground cover like Japanese forest grass,
Sarcococca, or colorful Heuchera.
